The thing that irked me throughout the show was that it was so serious that at some points the situations seemed almost funny and most definitely melodramatic.

It was difficult material (since the Mu live for so many generations), and the series was nevertheless well paced and well executed. The writers did a superb job in carefully shaping everyone, from the antagonist to the minor characters. I loved watching how each of them struggled with their situation and with the pain and longing they had to endure. Don't get me wrong, I loved watching the characters grow up and mature. Nothing seemed to be overused (ugh Claymore), and the seiyuu and sfx were all great.ДЄside from the great character development and great writing, I would say that this series takes itself just a tad too seriously. The music was definitely a plus, with beautiful and unique scores that really fit well with mood. There were some great CG here and there, but overall the animation was very generic. For a series with such an epic backdrop, the animation quality was definitely average. One of the major issues I had with Terra was the animation. My only problem was that some character designs seemed inconsistent, like for example baby Tony, where he looked like he could've popped out of a pokemon episode. The backdrops and ship designs were also great and carefully drawn.

It was all very crisp, with a beautiful color palette and lots of details here and there. I absolutely love the designs for the characters. The Mu, now hidden from the rest of humanity, have one dream, to return home, to Terra. Humanity, now ruled by a super computer that controls the birth of children, sees the emergence of a new race called the 'Mu'. In the far future, humanity has left behind an environmentally destroyed Terra and began colonization in order to reproduce their home.

I could probably gush and gush about the various arcs that were just brilliantly done, especially the Keith and Shiroe arc, but I'll leave that for you to experience yourself when you watch Toward the Terra. Looking back, I have to admit that I am somewhat amazed by the epic story that it was able to tell in a mere 24 episodes, so I guess I can forgive some of its problems. Although there was some odd pacing here and there (*cough*lastepisode*cough*), as a whole, Terra had some superb moments. My favorite thing about this series is definitely the character development and writing. It's overall more of an 8+, but I just had a bunch of issues with the series as a whole. anyway, I'll probably post a recap later.
